About BASAKU
Bamasaaba Students Association of Kumi University
Who We Are
BASAKU (Bamasaaba Students Association of Kumi University) is a cultural and student-led association that brings together students of Bamasaaba (Bugisu) origin from the Mount Elgon region of Uganda who are studying at Kumi University.
The association exists to unite students, preserve cultural identity, promote leadership, and create a strong support system among Bamasaaba students while enhancing unity within the wider Kumi University community.
BASAKU was founded in 2022 by a committed group of students led by the then Guild President of Kumi University, Mr. Mabonga Jesse, with Mr. Aramanzan serving as the first Chairperson. The association began with approximately 50 members and has since grown to over 100 active members.
